1 · Who we are

2 · What Sniff-it is

Sniff-it gives your pet an identity — a profile, a page of their own, and a link or QR code that resolves to it. From that, two things follow: if your pet goes missing, whoever finds them can reach you; and if you want to, other owners nearby can find you.

Sniff-it is not a veterinary service. Nothing here is medical advice, and no part of the app should delay a call to a vet. Sniff-it also does not sell animals and is not a party to anything you arrange through it — breeding, playdates, adoption, rehoming. We introduce; we are not in the room.

3 · Who may use it

You must be at least 16. [Age to confirm.]

One person, one account. Your email address is your account — it is how we know you across every way of signing in, so the same address always reaches the same account whether you arrive by code, by Google, or by Apple.

4 · Signing in

There are no passwords on Sniff-it, anywhere, by design. You sign in with a code sent to your email, or with Google or Apple. There is nothing to leak, reuse, or have stolen.

Keep access to your email address — it is the key to the account, and someone who controls it controls the account. Tell us at support@sniff-it.app if you think someone else has got in.

5 · Your pet, and what becomes public

A pet you add gets a page of their own at a link you can share, and that page is public — that is the point of it, because a stranger holding your lost dog cannot log in. Separately, you choose whether your pet is listed and searchable: whether they appear in the feed for people nearby, and whether search engines can find their page. That choice is yours and you can change it at any time.

Turning listing off does not hide the page from someone you send the link to. It stops them being listed and indexed. The page still exists, because the QR code has to work. You are never a public page: your name, your email and your photo are not published, not indexed, and not shown to people you have not connected with.

6 · What "Valid" means, and what it does not

A pet with a confirmed owner and photos is marked Valid. It means one thing: this animal belongs to an account we have reached by a verified email address, and there are photographs of them.

It is not a health check, a vet’s opinion, a pedigree, or a guarantee about temperament or behaviour. It says who, not how. Use your own judgement before meeting anyone or their animal, exactly as you would without us.

7 · What you put on Sniff-it

You keep ownership of your photos and everything else you upload. You give us permission to store them and to show them where you have asked us to — your pet’s page, the feed if you have listed them, and to people you connect with. That permission ends when you delete the content or the account, except for copies in ordinary backups, which age out.

Only upload what is yours to upload, and only what is true. Do not put another person’s photograph, or another person’s pet, on Sniff-it as your own.

8 · What you may not do

Some of this is obvious. It is written down anyway, because the line matters when it is crossed.

• —Pretend to be someone else, or claim an animal that is not yours.
• —Harass, threaten, or abuse anyone.
• —Use Sniff-it for anything illegal, including the illegal trade in animals.
• —Advertise cruelty, or anything a reasonable person would recognise as animal abuse.
• —Scrape, bulk-download, or automate against the service.
• —Try to break, overload, or get around the technical limits on the service.

9 · Reporting, and what we may do about it

You can report a pet, a person, or a message. We look at reports and we may remove content, hide a pet from listings, suspend an account, or close one — where the rules above have been broken, where the law requires it, or where someone is at risk.

Where we can, we will tell you what happened and why, and you can reply to us at support@sniff-it.app.

10 · Lost mode

Turning on lost mode publishes the contact details you choose, on your pet’s page, so a finder can reach you. That information is then public, to anyone with the link, for as long as lost mode is on. Turning it off takes it down again.

Only turn it on if you want to be contactable by strangers — which, when an animal is missing, is usually exactly what you want.

11 · Money

Sniff-it is free, and there is nothing to buy in this version. Where you see a waiting list — for a collar tag, for example — joining it takes no payment and commits you to nothing.

12 · Ending it

You can leave at any time, from the app, in a few taps. Your pet’s page goes dark immediately. After 30 days we destroy your personal data; what survives is an anonymous skeleton with no name, contact details, or photographs in it. If you sign back in during those 30 days, everything comes back.

We can end it too, if you break these terms, or if we have to stop running the service. If we close the service, we will give you notice and time to take your data with you.

13 · What we do and do not promise

We will run Sniff-it with reasonable care, but we do not promise it will always be available or error-free. It is not a security system, a tracker, or a substitute for a microchip, a collar tag with your number on it, or telling your neighbours.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for what happens between you and another person you met here, for an animal’s health or behaviour, or for indirect losses. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited — including death or personal injury caused by negligence, and your rights as a consumer, which these terms do not take away.

14 · The rest

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will show you what changed and ask you to accept the new version. You can decline; you keep browsing, and you can leave with your data.
